As much as Dan hates the word, we were totally on our ‘mini moon’ earlier this week in beautiful Bath.
Of course prior to this we got married (whaaaaat!?) so I just wanted to say thank you so much for all of your lovely comments on the few wedding pictures I’ve put up, you are all the best! Once we’ve got the photos back ‘Our wedding details’ will be here for all to see. Can’t wait to share with you all!
Bath is one of our favourite cities and it’s only an hour away from our little home making it a logistical dream. Living so close we’ve visited a lot but this break was about sleeping, recharging and cleansing our livers following the festivities. Due to there being so many fantastic bars and eateries in bath the latter on the list was not completed but that’s like sending Rachael to Bloomingdales and expecting her to come out without a shopping bag? What a ridiculous thought.
We booked through airb&b and as usual it was super easy and cheaper than a hotel. Our Georgian apartment was a twenty minute walk from town, which was a great cure for a food coma, and it was even more beautiful than in the pictures. The patterned ceiling, walls with contrasting skirting boards, super large windows and rustic bed side tables made it feel so luxurious. Sitting at the dinner table in front of the window made me feel like I had my shit together, that was until I spilt tea down myself of course.
Monday evening we strolled into town and had dinner at Thaikhun. Inside it’s so well decorated I felt like I could be in Thailand (says the girl who’s not yet travelled outside the EU) and the food was gorgeous. After eating ourselves into a state of despair there was only one thing to do but visit the Canary gin bar. This is a must go if you love gin and/or cocktails and their very own ‘Bath Gin Distillery Classic’ is a must try.
Exploring The Roman Baths was definitely worth the eighteen pounds each – steam rises from the hot springs still and you can really get a feel of what it would have been like all those years ago. My favourite little fact was that if someone had pissed you off you could write on a piece of lead what you wanted to happen to them and ask the gods for justice – I’ll be doing this to Dan from now on.
At the end of your visit you can try the water from the spring and I now feel like I’ll probably live forever or at least get a glowing complexion.
Tuesday we only went and booked our honeymoon! We decided to go through Trailfinders and are spending 10 nights in St. Lucia, three in the mountains and seven on the beach resort. I can’t wait to share my experience with you all and not long to go as we fly in January. We celebrated in Vino Vino and drank wine/cocktails into the late evening. Definitely a Tuesday well spent.
Following a recommendation from a friend we visited Shwartz Bros for a burger. Don’t be fooled by the outside, it was probably the best burger I’d ever eaten and there were loads of veggie options. We sat and ate in the Parade park which costs two pound to get in but it’s beautiful and worth the money. I just love that cities have parks that are so cared for.
If we only went to wander around the cobbled streets and walk past those beautiful terraced houses for a few days I would have been very happy. Back to reality now and work starts again on Monday but I think I’ll try and be a lady of leisure for a few more days, just slightly less elegant.
Lots of love,
