Four weeks to perfect skin?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I’ve spent half of my life dreaming about having perfect skin. The other half I’ve spent moaning about the fact I haven’t got it, and doing nothing to change it.

Exactly eight weeks ago I decided to be a moaning murtle no longer and put my money where my mouth is, or in fact, into the bathroom cabinet.

Carefully, I selected a morning and evening skin care routine to assist me on my journey to perfect pores. Following Emma’s (Lolita says so) advice I spent a eye watering amount of money on a new regime that was going to turn me into Kate Moss.

I feel no shame in telling you my new morning skin care routine has no less that seven steps. Seven. I know, I’ve never done seven of anything before this either.

My evening routine consists of six and I’m grateful for one less step after a glass of wine or four.

One thing I’ve never realised is quite how little effort I have put in to my complexion in the past. The nights I’ve been too drunk to remove my make up or I’ve decided I look like death warmed up anyway so there’s no point.

Not anymore. Im in AA for skin care offenders, SKO if you will, and I’m eight weeks sober. Well, apart from one night when Zoom fun went a step too far and I fell asleep in my make up but we are only human and relapses are inevitable.

I feel sure that a large majority of you are reading this and thinking Kirstie, we’ve been doing this for years. Why have you only put a sturdy skin care routine in place now? Well I’ll tell you why. I’ve been far too busy finding things in my handbag, topping up my champagne glass, learning how to cook pasta dishes to perfection and trying to make people fall in love with me. Oh, and moaning about the fact I’ve got shit skin. Now I feel I’ve mastered a few of the above Im going to join your club. I hope there’s still room Vivienne, I’ll bring sustenance.https://kirstiestillpetite.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/P4292547.mov

Verdict

  1. It’s hard to post pictures of yourself with no make up online.
  2. Not quite Kate Moss

Disappointingly I am here to report that no, I did not manage to acquire perfect skin in four weeks.

I did however achieve the following..

  • Actually sticking to something for longer than it takes me to eat a packet of crisps
  • Less redness
  • Fewer breakouts
  • Started to enjoy applying my potions and take five minutes to myself before bed
  • Built a (hopefully) life long habit
  • Spent money I shouldn’t have spent
  • Enjoying foundation-free days and not feeling like such a gremlin

I wanted to show you a fantastic transformation but if I’ve learnt one thing from life is all good things usually take time. Wine, cheese and self confidence, to name a few. A part of me thought about not writing this at all because the results weren’t quite as mind blowing as I thought they’d be but I think too often we only want to share the amazing and not the wonderfully ordinary, underwelming, little steps we take to get there.

Who knows, in another four weeks I could be staring in a clear skin commercial or telling you all off for not removing your makeup before bed. Anything is possible if you just believe.

Lots of love,

K x

Kirstie, I absolutely love you for posting this with such conviction and honesty. You look beautiful girl and I can definitely notice a change in our skin from comparing both photos.

I feel quite lucky that I’ve never had bad skin as such and never felt the pressure to have a skin routine I suppose as a result. I do wonder whether with age it’s something I should partake in, but I’m far too lazy and worry my skin may suffer from too much product, instead of feel glowy and youthful.
