A wellbeing reset for Autumn

I know it’s not scary January yet and usually we start the fresh routine in that bitter, bitter month but after a rather indulgent summer (which included our wedding woo) I’m in desperate need of pushing that reset button.

Who would have known planning a wedding would be so mentally and physically exhausting and then poof, it’s all over. Quicker than Gretchin Weiners fetch moment.

Wedding blues are a real thing, not that I believed it before the big day, and it honestly does make you feel sad. It was one of our main focuses since we were engaged in 2017 and now it’s all gone, has it been forgotten? I don’t even like the attention but now I’m like Britney, threatening to shave my head at any given moment.

You won’t find any juice cleanses or head shaving here my friend, no no. My main focus with my health and wellbeing is finding balance. I can really tell when I’ve tipped the scales into the mildly alcoholic, eating pasta for breakfast zone I find myself in from time to time. Listen to your body and do what makes you feel good and all aspects of your life will thank you for it.

Please don’t punish yourself if you’ve not eaten your vegetables or were just thinking mean thoughts about Karen before you started reading this. It’s your body and if you’re not feeling it’s working to its best right now, no worries. Your body and mind are super forgiving and a little time spent in those departments will soon have you feeling like Kayla Itsines on a bad day I’m sure.

Here are the few of the things I’m incorporating to help me feel brighter and hopefully prevent me pressing the snooze button ten times a morning. I’m a twenty something blogger that doesn’t have a lot of spare income and am pretty short on time so don’t worry, I won’t tell you I do the impossible because I barely wash my hair. Here we go…

Counting my fruits & veggies

Sound childish? Yes.

A cool thing to do? Definitely.

I’m pretty sure there is a scary statistic somewhere about how few of us hit our five a day but sadly, I don’t know it. What I do know however is when I eat more fruit and veg my skin is happier, I’m less bloated and I remember how lovely they are. I aim for five veggies and two fruits a day but you can go for whatever number you want. Veggie lasagna here we come.

Going for walks on my lunch break

One of my colleagues started doing this so I thought I’d tag along. Instead of me sitting scrolling for thirty minutes we did a power walk around beautiful Salisbury. I got some time away from my desk, a few kilometres nailed and it woke me up for the afternoon. Win win. Doing this everyday is not possible because sometimes it can be pretty busy but twice a week is more than before!

Having a glass of red wine

Wine is very important to me, I know you all know this. Currently I try my best to not drink Monday to Friday but I do end up making up for it on the weekend.

Spending more on a lovely bottle and having a glass to enjoy a couple of times a week, perhaps while I cook or unwind is so enjoyable for me. I’m hoping it will be better for my health than having seven on a Saturday night. It’s also encouraging me to cook from scratch more often, not sure why.

Very simple breathing exercises

Breathing is something we do without thinking, all day everyday. It’s funny that when you do sit and think about your breath how instantly calm you feel. Every morning on the train I do a few minutes of deep breathing with my eyes closed. Count in for four and out for five. The other commuters might think I look weird but i think to myself that it would be more beneficial for them to join in than think I’m a nutter so I’m winning really.

You could try it while you do your make up, have your morning cuppa or even while your in the shower. Go on give it a go just for a few days. Deep breathing is seriously enjoyable.

Simplifying my skin care

Now this is nothing new to me. At the end of 2018 I cleared out all of my belongings, including my skin care and make up bag. I’ve always been a bit of a skin care junkie (I use to be a beauty therapist) but I really didn’t have a sturdy routine going.

I now only use 3-4 products but I’ve really let my standards slip during the summer so I’m ready to get my glow back and try and finally improve the congestion on my forehead, something I’ve suffered with since I first noticed it in my year eight school photograph.

Any tips for congestion please send them my way!

It took me a while to look at my body and love it. There are still days when I’m not so sure. My stomach isn’t flat, my body isn’t like hers and if I could just have a few more inches that would help. We’re only human and thoughts like these may creep in from time to time but remember your beautiful and your body and mind is yours to take care of the best you can.
